Flight Delay Problems on Allegiant Air

Most airlines suffer some form of delay from time to time. Its how often they are delayed and how they treat the passengers that are the real issues.

Numerous reasons are given for the delay of planes in departing and arriving. Some of these are mechanical issues, check in delays, missing passengers, baggage hold ups, airport congestion and bad weather. There are of course other reasons, but the airlines may not always tell you why.

Have you experienced a delay when flying with Allegiant Air?

Were you kept up to date by Allegiant with information regarding the delay?

How have you been treated when delayed - were you compensated or given vouchers?

Any other issues, complaints or problems with Allegiant Plane Delays?

  1. Delays both ways on the Phoenix/Mesa Peoria flight. Board in Mesa always indicated the flight was on time, but at an hour over the scheduled departure, they started making announcements. Peoria flight was delayed an hour with no indication on the board and no announcements. No compensation. No apologies. Not sure but it appears that part of the delay was caused by an excessive number of 'disabled' passengers. I have never seen so many people in wheelchairs in my entire life of flying. Frankly, many of the 28 wheelchair passengers on the return flight didn't appear to be disabled. The airline policy of providing priority seating without requiring any verification of disability is causing this.

  2. I am most annoyed with the attitude of Allegiant Airlines - We have used them over 8 times now and do not think I will bother to return to them. The last 3 flights were from Peoria Il To Phoenix Mesa. including a flight today. The delays have been over 2 hours where the reason given was that the airline had not got their paperfwork in order to be on the runway. Todays delay was for 5 hours and no compensation. The agents simply "dissappeared" from the counters to avoind answering questioffered food service after 3.5 hours and this appeared 5 hours later. Tried calling their custgomer service where the auto attendant proudly annouced that the wait time to speak to anyone wold be 13 mins and 14 seconds. , etc e,tc . ASwful customer service... sorry allegiant you are just meeting the standards

  3. Flights out of St Petersburg/Cleawater Fla This past Sunday were almost nightmarish for a lot of folks. My flight to Greensboro NC along with 4 or 5 other flights that day were grounded initially for "mechanical" problems. We boarded on time and sat through one problem fixed right away. We were heading to the runway when another problem announced that could not be repaired and told they were gonna try to get another plane. Of course the storm "Debbie" was progressively getting worse as the day wore on. We continually received new departure times until about 7:30pm when the airport was closed. It was the next evening at 6 before we arrived in Greensboro. I am grateful to have arrived home safe especially in the face of the storm. But the day was full of blunders for a whole lot of people flying to many places. I would think that a responsible airline would perhaps have a better plan B rather than what appeared to be no plan at all.

  5. There were certain qualities you possessed carelessly. And you couldn't retrieve them when they were gone. The very act of caring made them impossible to regain.

My husband and I were flying home from Vegas to Pasco, WA July 7th, 2013. A problem with the plane forced us to deplane after an hour of sitting in a hot plane (remember we are in Vegas) we changed gates and boarded another plane. After another hour we were informed of problems with plane #2 which forced us to deplane again. We at least had air conditioning in the terminal. Problems were fixed after another 45 minutes. We boarded the plane and proceeded to sit again for another hour. (this time not Allegiant Air prob - weather) We were informed we would be given a voucher for future travel for $50 each. I have flown Allegiant Air before a couple of time and never had a problem. My kids have flown Allegiant Air with no problems either. I do realize that problems can happen forcing delays however after reviewing this site and talking with the other passengers, this is an ongoing problem. My suggestion would be to FIX your older planes to alleviate complaints like this. I am not satisfied with a $50 voucher. I spent close to $600 for both of us to fly round trip (with all the additional fees for baggage, priority boarding, reserved seating, etc. We landed in Pasco 6 hours late.

July 4, 2014: Received a call from Allegiant's automated notifier that my wife's flight (AAY 149, KRFD - KIWA) would be delayed for nearly 7 hours (later another hour added) with no explanation why. Spoke with my wife this afternoon, she said that the Allegiant people at RFD told her that a bird strike turned the KIWA-KRFD flight (AAY 148) around, and they couldn't use the aircraft and another had to be flown in to replace it. I'm in Phoenix - there's been NOTHING on the local news regarding a bird strike on an Allegiant plane today, and there's nothing on any of the local news websites regarding one either.

Allegiant, what's the REAL story here? Why the bird-strike story that can't be verified?

  11. ugggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! I flew allegiant for the first time from ft wayne Indiana to St pete with no issues... however.... on the return flight from st pete I got a notice AFTER I arrived at the airport that my flight would be delayed over 3 hours. We decided to go sightseeing for a couple hours and after we were about 20 minutes away I got another text from allegiant saying my flight was leaving at 2:02pm and since it was already 1:55 pm (which was almost 2 hours earlier than what they originally said ) we made a mad dash back to the airport thinking I had missed the flight only to find out that it wasn't leaving until at least 4 pm. OMG... no apologies no refunds and the counter people were rude. They said it was late because there are so many people flying out of st pete that the air traffic controllers were having an issue with it. REALLY????? I would think they would have these issues worked out before they book the flights. I am so discouraged. don't think I will fly allegiant again.

  12. I have use Allegiant for at least 10 flight. Each time I think I'll never do it again. How could one airline possibly be that consistently late. Well, not just late but seriously, I could drive to my destination faster than I get there. I generally fly from Chattanooga to either Orlando or St. Petersburg. I had a job offer in the Tampa area and I wanted try to commute back and forth. It would have worked out perfectly if the airline was even remotely capable of being even near on time. Unfortunately, I had to turn down the job. I could not have expected my employer to under stand being consistently late.
It's unfortunate that in today's business climate such practices go unresolved. Twenty years ago, that airline would have been out of business in a matter of weeks. I suppose there are enough people that have loose enough schedules to spend a couple days waiting on a 2 hour flight.
